Investigator of the year - finalist #2

Anthony Pfleger, EssilorLuxottica

Here's what people are saying about this great investigator:
Anthony Pfleger has demonstrated exceptional investigative acumen and leadership in combating organized retail crime. As Regional Manager of Investigations at EssilorLuxottica, he spearheaded a complex, multi-state investigation that led to the dismantling of a sophisticated burglary ring responsible for over $1.2 million in stolen Sunglass Hut merchandise.

A series of burglaries targeted Sunglass Hut locations across the eastern United States. The perpetrators employed a method of cutting through drywall from adjacent stores to bypass security systems. Recognizing patterns reminiscent of prior incidents, Anthony initiated a comprehensive investigation, coordinating efforts with local law enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and the National Leads Center.

A pivotal breakthrough occurred when a UPS store clerk, alerted by a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) notice, identified suspicious shipments linked to a recent Tennessee burglary. This tip provided surveillance footage and a vehicle license plate number, which authorities tracked using FLOCK camera systems. Subsequently, law enforcement intercepted the vehicle near Nashville, recovering $275,000 in stolen sunglasses and crucial evidence connecting the suspects to multiple break-ins.

Anthony's relentless coordination continued as Miami PD and HSI executed a search warrant in South Florida, uncovering an additional 4,000 stolen frames, bringing the total recovery to over $1.2 million. The suspects, now facing federal charges in multiple states, were apprehended with bond amounts exceeding $1 million.

Anthony's ability to connect case elements across jurisdictions, his strategic collaboration with federal and local partners, and his unwavering commitment to justice exemplify investigative excellence. His leadership not only led to the successful takedown of a high-impact retail theft crew but also set a benchmark for future investigations in organized retail crime.

For his outstanding contributions and dedication, Anthony Pfleger is a deserving candidate for the Investigator of the Year award.
